The university garden was officially renamed "Loki Schmidt Garden, Botanical Garden of the University of Hamburg" on October 23, 2012, in a ceremony attended by former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt.
The Botanical Garden was originally founded on the site of today's "Planten un Blomen" park, near the Dammtor train station. The show greenhouses are still present here today as part of the Loki Schmidt Garden.
Thea Lautenschläger's responsibilities include a 24-hectare garden full of impressive plants and exciting research.
We wish her an interesting and also for the SFB/TRR280 enriching start for this new challenge.
Congratulations.
