From June 24 to 28, 2024, Dresden schoolchildren experienced an extraordinary summer vacation project week at Albrechtsberg Castle: the "Concrete ART Project 2024". During this exciting week, organized by the CRC/Transregio 280 of the TUD Dresden University of Technology and the Dresden Youth Art School (Jugendkunstschule Dresden), 21 young participants immersed themselves in the fascinating world of concrete. How strong is concrete - why do you need reinforcement? How does concrete sound - can you make music with it?
Supported by scientific staff from TUD Dresden University of Technology and four dedicated Dresden lecturers, the young researchers found exciting ways of combining concrete with other materials and making it vibrate to produce sounds. A special highlight of the week was the visit to the carbon concrete house CUBE on the TUD Dresden University of Technology campus. The children experienced an exciting load test with unreinforced and reinforced concrete slabs and gained an insight into the future of building with carbon reinforced concrete.
At the end of the project week, the concrete creations made during the week were proudly presented to the numerous parents and grandparents in an exhibition. The project week impressively demonstrated how closely art and science can be linked and the creative potential of this combination.
